volunteers http://tspr.org en Lee County Hospice Seeks Volunteers http://tspr.org/post/lee-county-hospice-seeks-volunteers <p>End-of-life decisions can be the most difficult someone will make.</p><p>The need for hospice care and the people who provide it continues to increase, thanks to the &ldquo;Baby Boomer&rdquo; generation.</p><p>Jeri Welch with the Lee County Health Department describes hospice as comfort care provided at the end of someone&rsquo;s life.</p><p>She says the service can be provided in the home, a nursing home, or a hospital.</p><p>Welch says eligibility is based on a doctor declaring a patient has six-months-or-less to live and the patient choosing to allow nature to take its course.</p> Mon, 12 Mar 2012 05:37:55 +0000 Jason Parrott 11641 at http://tspr.org Lee County Hospice Seeks Volunteers Big Brothers/Big Sisters Needs Volunteers http://tspr.org/post/big-brothersbig-sisters-needs-volunteers <p>The &ldquo;Big Brothers/Big Sisters&rdquo; program for McDonough and Warren Counties has plenty of children who need an adult role model.&nbsp; There aren&#39;t enough adult volunteers to match with the children.<br /><br />Board member Dan Yoder and program director Kim Lampitt said volunteers fill a gap in the life of a child.&nbsp; She said most children are nominated by a school teacher.<br /><br />She said the program has 46 active matches.
