GALEX is celebrating 52 years, and is one of the longest running juried exhibitions in the country. It began in 1967 and has been an annual event at the Art Center ever since. A variety of media will be represented including oil, watercolor, acrylic, collage, photography and sculpture.
Also on March 9, 5-7pm, an exhibition of paintings, Portraits by Cora Markwart, will open in the Blick Gallery. Cora has been creating work for over 70 years, painting a variety of subjects, but people continue to be her favorite. To celebrate her 95 years on earth, her daughter and artist, Carla Markwart, has curated this exhibition of her work.
GALEX and other programs of the Art Center are sponsored in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council which receives support from the State of Illinois and the National Endowment for the Arts.
