A representative of one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations will deliver the keynote address at Monmouth College’s annual Martin Luther King Convocation on Jan. 15.
Lecia Brooks, outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center, will speak at noon in the Kasch Performance Hall of the College’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. The convocation, which will also feature gospel choirs and student speakers, is free and open to the public.
Based in Montgomery, Ala., the SPLC is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society. Using litigation, education and other forms of advocacy, the center works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.
