Western Illinois University graduate Reverend Brooks is recognized throughout the United States as a human relations builder of scholar. His commitment to justice and equality are the direct result of his work on several social justice projects with the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, of Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ, created this event to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Celebration Committee seeks to provide the community an opportunity to come together in unity to help make Dr. King’s dream a reality. “This is the only event of its kind in West Central Illinois that brings together a broad section of the community in a positive way,” said Belinda Carr, one of the celebration committee chairs.
In addition to Reverend Brooks’ presentation, the committee will recognize and honor four community members for their exceptional leadership contributions in the community. The event will also acknowledge the establishment of Mount Calvary Church’s first educational student scholarships. “We would like to make this an annual event to celebrate justice and equity,” commented Dr. Sterling Saddler, celebration committee co-chair.
Dinner tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door for adults, $30 in advance, and $40 at the door for students.
All checks may be made to Mount Calvary COGIC, 1500 E. Pierce St., Macomb, IL 61455.
