Why do students enroll in college? And what draws them to Monmouth College, in particular?
Laura Hutchinson, Monmouth’s new vice president for student life and dean of students, will answer those questions at the next Monmouth Associates program at noon Nov. 16 in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center.
Last summer, Hutchinson was selected from a strong national pool of candidates to lead the college’s student life departments, which includes athletics and intramurals, career and leadership services, Greek life, intercultural life, residence life, and religious and spiritual life.
During her talk, she will draw from her 25 years of student life experience to discuss her views on what students hope to achieve in college, as well as the distinctive differences that a Monmouth College education provides. She will also comment on the challenges and opportunities faced by residential liberal arts colleges and the shifting demographics of college-bound high school students.
Hutchinson came to Monmouth from Earlham (Ind.) College, where she was most recently vice president for student life.
