Prairie Land Conservancy’s mission is to protect wildlife habitat, open spaces, natural areas, and
sustainable agriculture within west central Illinois. Their service area includes the following
counties: Adams, Brown, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, Mercer, Peoria, Pike,
Rock Island, Schuyler, Tazewell, and Warren.
Prairie Land Conservancy is seeking a dedicated individual to join their Board of Directors.
Current board member Ross Braun has this to say about why you should join the board: “It’s a
way to make a difference by enhancing the great outdoors and improving our quality of life for
today and the future.”
PLC is seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and expertise who are
committed to their communities. Ideal candidates should possess:
● A passion for conservation and wildlife and a genuine desire to make a positive impact
● Strong leadership and decision-making skills
● Communication and teamwork skills
● Experience in some of the following areas: Land Management, Public Relations,
Marketing, Fundraising, Accounting, Volunteer Management
● The ability to commit 3 hours per month at board meeting and committees, with 2-4
hours for periodic special events or volunteering
Board Members are expected to:
● Be active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
● Fully engage in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships to advance
the mission
● Leverage connections, networks, and resources to achieve the mission
● Provide strategic and organizational planning
● Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the communities they serve
● Respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the
boardroom and the organization

The Henderson County Fair is located in Stronghurst, Illinois, and has a rich history that dates back to its official beginning in 1934. It has since become a cherished event that celebrates the agricultural and educational aspects of the community. The fair's history is marked by its commitment to providing a fun and educational experience for the whole family, with various competitions, contests, and educational events.

Tuesday, July 28th:

This five-day camp highlights Sandburg’s agriculture program and introduces students to modern farming, agribusiness, and sustainable practices through hands-on activities and industry exposure. Participants will receive CPR/AED Certification and engage directly with local industry employers through field trips.
Date: July 27-31 | Time: Daily 9 a.m.-noon | Open to ages 14-24 |

The market emphasizes locally grown produce and products, ensuring that all items are sourced from Illinois growers. This focus on local sourcing helps to reduce transportation emissions and supports the regional economy.
The market welcomes new vendors and offers a variety of goods, including fruits, vegetables, baked and canned goods, as well as artwork and crafts. It operates between 3 and 6 PM, making it accessible for afternoon and early evening shoppers.

Memorial Hospital invites community members to take part in “Balanced Bites: Cooking for Diabetes Summer Edition,” a hands-on cooking class designed to inspire healthy habits in the kitchen on Wednesday, July 29, at 10:00 AM in the Health & Wellness Center Teaching Kitchen.

This class will be led by Memorial Hospital Registered Dietitian Jennifer Soucie, RD, CDCES, and Kayce Fuhrman, BSN, CDCES, Director of Diabetes Services. Together, they will guide participants to a hands-on culinary experience while learning practical nutrition strategies to incorporate into everyday life. The class will feature diabetes-friendly recipes, meal-preparation tips, and valuable education to help individuals make confident, healthy choices at home.

The cost to attend is $30 per person. Space is limited to 10 participants to ensure a personalized experience, and attendees must be 18 years of age or older. Registration is available at MHTLC.ORG and encouraged, as seating is expected to fill quickly.
